Lieutenant Governor of Kansas

The Office of the Vice Governor of Kansas (Lieutenant Governor of Kansas ) was created in the course of the transformation of the territory into a state of the United States. Joseph Pomeroy Root, a Republican, was the first Lieutenant Governor of the new state and took office on 12 February 1861.

The vice governor was, as well, vacant several times in other states across the United States over time, either because the incumbent himself prematurely lost his job or had to take over the succession of an early departing governor. Thus, since occupation of the office is established by the Constitution of the State only by a popular vote could not be subsequently occupied the office of the new lieutenant governor. Early elections, such as in countries and member states with the parliamentary system of government, are excluded in the United States at both the federal level and at the vast majority of Federal government levels.
