Light Airborne Multi-Purpose System

Light Airborne Multi-Purpose System, or often referred LAMPS in the United States Navy normally to anti-submarine helicopter purposes used.

The characteristic feature is the special anti-submarine equipment from a towed sonar or magnetic anomaly detector (MAD ), surface radar, sonar buoys and a light armament of torpedoes or anti-ship missiles. LAMPS helicopters operating from medium to large warships such as frigates, destroyers and cruisers and should mainly be supportive in antisubmarine warfare or support joint action with the antisubmarine warfare ships.

Types used are:

  • SH-2 Seasprite ( LAMPS I, decommissioned )
  • SH-60 Seahawk ( LAMPS III)

The planning for a version II were discarded.
