Light of Latgale

Latgale Gaisma ( German: Latgale Light) was a political regional party in Latvia. Core area was the Latgale region ( Latvian: Latgale ) the second largest city in the country, Daugavpils ( German: Daugavpils ).

Latgale Gaisma was led by Rihards Eigims, a businessman from Daugavpils. 2001, the party won the local elections in the city, Rihards Eigims was mayor. In 2003 he had his office after losing a vote of confidence to give up, many members of his party in the city council had previously had defected.

Outside of Daugavpils, the party was less successful. In the parliamentary elections to the Latvian parliament, the Saeima, on 5 October 2002, Latgale Latgale Gaisma won 9.3 percent of the vote nationwide but only 1.5 percent and failed thus at the five-percent hurdle. ( For comparison, the mainly supported by the Russian-speaking population party alliance " For Human Rights in United Latvia " came in Latgale to 36.5 percent nationwide to 19 percent of the vote).

Later, the party joined as part of the Latvian Social Democratic Workers' Party was dissolved and elections to February 8, 2007 by Eigims .. Eigims itself was for the 2009 LSDSP briefly again mayor of Daugavpils and 2010 for the alliance of Greens and Farmers deputy of the 10th Saeima.
