Ligier JS5

The Ligier JS5 was a Formula 1 racing car, built in 1976 and used by the French motorsport teams Equipe Ligier.

The JS5 was the first Ligier Formula 1 race car. It was designed by Gerard seater Ducarouge, who had previously worked for Matra. Ducarouge opted for a conventional monocoque. The car had front double wishbone suspension with inboard damper struts and rear upper and lower wishbones with outboard damper struts and double wishbone suspension. The V12 engine came from Matra and made 520 hp.

In the body, however, went Ligier innovative ways. The aerodynamicist Robert Choulet developed a vehicle that captivated by its curved lines, the concave nose and an extremely high air scoop. This scoop was also the main sponsor of the Ligier team, the cigarette brand Gitanes, as a perfect advertising space.

Ligier continued in 1976 only one vehicle in the World Series a, Jacques Laffite drove the. The car was at the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos its race debut. Laffite retired after problems with the circuit. Overall, the first season of Ligier proceeded with the JS5 in Formula 1 quite successful and the team was fifth with 20 points in the constructors' championship.
