Ligny

Ligny [ liɲi ] ( Walloon ligne ) is a former municipality in the Belgian province of Namur, with around 2000 inhabitants.

Since the municipal reform of 1977 Ligny belongs to Sombreffe.

Ligny is mainly known as a venue for the Battle of Ligny on 16 June 1815 the last battle that Napoleon Bonaparte - two days before the Battle of Waterloo - won. Ligny is a member of the Federation of European cities Napoleon.
