Ligule

As a ligule or ligule is known in plants with leaf sheaths - especially in sweet and sour grasses - an appendage at the junction of the vagina and Spreitenoberseite. It usually appears as membranous, colorless translucent extension of the upper skin on the inside of the leaf sheath and represents an extension of the inner epidermis of the leaf sheath dar. It protects against injuries caused by friction of the wind to the reciprocating Halmgliedes.
