Lilia Podkopayeva

Liliya Olexanderiwna Podkopajewa (Ukrainian: Лілія Олександрівна Подкопаєва; Russian: Лилия Александровна Подкопаева; born August 15, 1978 in Donetsk, Soviet Union ) is a retired Ukrainian gymnast.

Career

Liliya Podkopajewa began gymnastics at the age of five years. In 1993, she first appeared on at international senior competitions. Your first success in international championships celebrated Lilia Podkopajewa at the 1995 World Championships in Sabae. There, she became world champion on vault and in the all around competition. They also won one silver medal on the uneven bars and the balance beam.

At the European Championships in Birmingham in 1996 she became European Champion in the all around, on the ground and on the uneven bars. With the team, she won a bronze medal, also the jump. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, she won a silver medal on balance beam and was Olympic champion in the all around and on the ground. Because of injuries saw Podkopajewa then no longer be able to continue to do gymnastics at the 1996 level and decided to end her career thus.

Today she works as a trainer and martial judge. With a fitness show she made in 2001 first steps on Ukrainian television. In 2007, she appeared on the Ukrainian version of Let 's Dance. She took 6 September 2008 in Glasgow for Ukraine in part at the Euro Vision Dance Contest. 2008 Liliya Podkopajewa was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

Liliya Podkopajewa is married with her husband Timofey Nagorny the biological daughter Karolina and the adopted son Vadim. With Timofey Nagorny they committed to children in Ukraine, including for orphans and children who are infected with the HIV virus.
