Liliaceae

Tulipa kuschkensis

The lily family ( Liliaceae ) is a plant family of monocots. It is distributed in the northern temperate zone, particularly in East Asia and North America. The family now includes 16 genera with about 630 species.

Description

Lily plants are almost always perennial herbaceous plants. The Überdauerungsorgan is always an onion. The leaves are simple, parallel-veined and smooth edges.

The flowers are borne singly or in inflorescences. The hermaphrodite flowers are triple ( as with almost all monocots plants). The six arranged bloom ( tepals ) are usually free and only rarely grown. There are six stamens per flower and three carpels present. The fruits are either insulated draft tube capsules or berries.

System

Previously, up to 3,500 species have been recorded to the lily family. Many of these species are among the agave family ( Agavaceae ), leek family ( Alliaceae ), asparagus plants ( Asparagaceae ) Asphodelus ( Asphodelaceae ) Timeless plants ( Colchicaceae ), hyacinth plants ( Hyacinthaceae ) and butcher's broom plants ( Ruscaceae ). The Calochortaceae, Erythroniaceae, Fritillariaceae, Liriaceae, Medeolaceae, Scoliopaceae, Tricyrtidaceae and Tulipaceae were formerly independent families, the genera of these families are now assigned to the lily family ( Liliaceae ).

The Liliaceae are currently in two subfamilies and 16 genera divided with 635 species.

  • Subfamily Lilioideae Eaton: With eleven genera with about 535 species: Giant lily ( Cardiocrinum ( Endl. ) Lindl. ): With three kinds in Asia.
  • Clintonia Raf. With five species in the northern hemisphere.
  • Tooth lilies ( Erythronium L.): With about 27 species, almost all in North America, only one in Europe.
  • Fritillaria L.: With approximately 140 species in the northern hemisphere.
  • Yellow stars ( Gagea Salisb. ): Including Lloydia Salisb. ex Rchb. about 200 species in the northern hemisphere.
  • Korolkowia rule: With only one type: Korolkowia sewerzowii ( rule) Rule: It is native to Central Asia.
  • Indian snake root ( Medeola virginiana L.): It is native to eastern Canada and the northeastern United States.
  • Subfamily Calochortoideae Dum. With five genera and about 100 species: Mormons tulip ( Calochortus Pursh ): with 60-73 species.
  • Fairy Bells ( Prosartes D.Don ): With about six species in North America.
  • Scoliopus Torr. With two species in western North America.
  • Twistedstalk ( Streptopus Michx. ): With approximately eleven species are in the moderate regions of the northern hemisphere.
  • Toad lilies ( Tricyrtis Wall. ): With about 23 species from the Himalayas to Taiwan and Japan.
