Lilla Essingen

Lilla Essingen is a 23 acre island in Lake Mälaren, Sweden and a district of Stockholm municipality with 4,201 inhabitants Kungsholmen (2006). Already in 1916 it was incorporated as part of the Stockholm Bromma city. The highest point has an altitude of 26 meters above the sea. The riparian areas are almost fully developed by publicly accessible pedestrian promenades. Neighbouring districts are Fredhäll Stockholm, Marienberg, Långholmen, Gröndal and Stora Essingen.

At the beginning of the 20th century brought to Lilla Essingen several summer villas. Most of these were demolished in the 1930s, as space for leased properties was needed. Thus, the island received an urban character. Primus ( camping stove ) and Lux (now Lux International AG): a little earlier, two major factories were established on the island. The industries were closed at the end of the 20th century and after the site was built by 2007 with modern apartment buildings.

Initially Lilla Essingen was connected by a cable ferry to the island of Kungsholmen. In 1907, at the same place a concrete bridge that was in 1936 replaced by the present iron bridge. Since 1966, leads the motorway bridge of Essingeleden over the island.
