Lillian Beckwith

Lillian Beckwith ( Lillian Comber actually, * 1916 in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, † January 3, 2004 on the Isle of Man) was an English writer.

Life

Beckwith was born in 1916 as Lillian Lloyd. The grocer her father was the background for her first autobiographical book that portrays family life in 1920 from a child's perspective.

In 1937, she married Ted Comber and 1942, during the Second World War, they moved to the Isle of Skye, which is one of the Inner Hebrides, where the couple lived for nearly twenty years. Their experiences there Beckwith has described in other warm-hearted books. After leaving the Hebrides, she moved in 1962 to the Isle of Man, where she lived until her death in 2004.
