Lily Addison

Marion Lilian "Lily" Addison ( born December 21, 1885 in Adelaide, † 27 November 1982) was an Australian tennis player.

Life

Addison won from 1906 multiple championships of South Australia. In mixed they often joined with her brother JJ Addison, also a successful tennis player, at. Around 1910, she moved to Melbourne. The end of 1913, she began training as a nurse at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Her brother JJ fell in May 1915 in northern France. After completing her training, she volunteered in August 1917 for the medical corps of the Australian Army and then served in several British hospitals in Thessaloniki, Greece. After the war she was treated in February 1919 in a hospital in Dartford in London because of a lung disease.

In June 1919 she took part at the Wimbledon Championships. While she was eliminated in the individual in the second round against Winifred McNair, she reached in the Mixed Competition at the side of Max Décugis the semifinals. A month after the tournament, she returned to Australia. In 1921 she won for the fifth time the championships of Victoria.

In 1937 she worked at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. In 1970 she lived in Melbourne's Kew.
