Lily Tomlin
Lily Tomlin ( born September 1, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American actress, writer and producer.
Career
Lily Tomlin is the daughter of a factory worker. She has a younger brother named Richard, who was born in 1943. Tomlin studied medicine at Wayne State University, but soon discovered her interest in acting and made her first stage experience as a stand-up comedian. In 1966 she worked as a secretary for a casting director in television and came in this way to her first television appearance as an entertainer in the Gary Moore Show. With its embodiment of the telephone operator Ernestine in the television series Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In Tomlin became known in 1969 across the U.S..
Lily Tomlin's film career began in 1975 with Robert Altman's Nashville. In the film ... Why we do not bring the boss? 1980 she played alongside Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton in the film Two by Two 1988 alongside Bette Midler and in the film Shadows and Fog 1992 alongside Woody Allen.
Tomlin was seen in both comedic as well as dramatic television roles; beside it stood in the 1970s and 1980s as an entertainer in male and female roles in the theater, often with texts her friend Armistead Maupin. The solo shows were produced by her partner Jane Wagner, who also led Tomlins been financially and artistically biggest failure, the film From moment to moment ( moment by moment ) with John Travolta, directed in 1978. Another flop was The Incredible Shrinking Woman ( The Incredible Shrinking Woman ) by Joel Schumacher, a satire on the American way of life and the traditional housewife and mother role.
Tomlin became involved at an early stage of homosexual themes. For the documentary The Celluloid Closet, was involved in the screenplay Maupin, she said, the voice-over and took care of advance to its financing. For years, she stands up for the rights of gays and lesbians.

Since 2012 she can be seen in a leading role as Lillie Mae in the ABC sitcom Malibu Country. Since January 2014 Tomlin is married to the writer Jane Wagner.
