Limay (Yvelines)

Limay is a commune with 16,304 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Yvelines department in the Île- de -France region. It belongs to the district of Versailles and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the eponymous canton Limay. The inhabitants call themselves Limayens.

Geography

The city is located 53 km west of Paris. A large part of Limay is part of the Regional Natural Park Vexin français. The municipality borders on Guitrancourt in the northeast, Porcheville in the east, Guerville and Mantes- la -Ville in the south, Mantes- la -Jolie in the southwest, Foullainville - Dennemont in the west and Fontenay -Saint -Père in the north.

History

The municipality shows prehistoric remains. During the time of the Roman conquest it was the root of the Veliocasses, a sub- tribe of the Belgae. Founded in 1376, Charles V of France here a convent of Celestine. 1614, Maria de ' Medici build a Capuchin convent here.
