Limestone County (Alabama)

The Limestone County is a county located in the state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Athens.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme north of Alabama, bordering Tennessee and has an area of 1572 square kilometers, of which 101 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Madison County, Morgan County, Lawrence County and Lauderdale County.

History

The Limestone County was formed on February 6, 1818. It was named after the Limestone Creek as it flows through the County.
