Limmat Valley

The Limmat valley extends from the city of Zurich Lake Zurich in a northwesterly direction along the Clear Mount up to Brugg. By the Limmat Valley flows the River Limmat, which flows into the Aare at the moated castle near Brugg. As commonly understood, the Limmat valley lying on the Limmat river settlements and their adjacent villages.

The following towns and cities are located in the Limmat Valley: Zurich, Oberengstringen, Unterengstringen, streaks, wine rings, Oberurdorf, Dietikon, Bergdietikon, Geroldswil, Oetwil, Spreitenbach, Würenlos, Kill cheeks, Neuenhof, Wettingen, Baden, Ennetbaden, Obersiggenthal, Untersiggenthal and Turgi.

After the valley also is located between Spreitenbach and Dietikon marshalling yard Limmat Valley (abbreviated RBL) of the Zurich railway junction is named.

As early as 1930, has declared the remains of primeval floodplain, the Dietiker Altläufe to the nature reserve of the Government of the Canton of Zurich. In addition, the Gerold Wiler floodplains have been re- created with the relicensing of the hydropower plant Wettingen in 2005. The Riedwiesen of Dietiker Schachens home to over 150 species of plants. In the floodplain of the kingfisher, ringed plover and the grass snake can be observed.
