They are native to the temperate regions of North America.

Description

There are usually annual herbaceous plants. The alternate, stalked foliage leaves are simple or compound. The leaf blade is tiefgelappt or perforated. Stipules are not available.

The flowers appear singly in the leaf axils on long stalks. The wide-open flowers are three to fünfzählig with double perianth.
