Limnomys

Limnomys is a rodent species from the group of Altweltmäuse ( Murinae ). The genus includes two species.

These animals can reach a body length of about 13 centimeters, the tail is 15-16 inches. Her thick coat color is black-brown on the back, the abdomen is beige. The hind legs are long and slender, the tail is long and hairy.

The animals live only on the Philippine island of Mindanao. They inhabit higher altitudes, humid forests in 2000-2800 meters above sea level. About their lifestyle is otherwise unknown.

There are two types:

  • Limnomys bryophilus was first described scientifically in 2003.
  • Limnomys sibuanus is often in higher regions of Mindanao.

Neither of the two species is endangered according to IUCN. Systematically, the genus is placed in the Rattus group, is so closely related to the rats.
