Lincoln Almond

Lincoln Carter Almond ( born June 16, 1936 in Central Falls, Rhode Iceland ) is an American politician ( Republican). He was from 1995 to 2003 Governor of the State of Rhode Iceland.

Early years and political rise

Almond visited the Central Falls High School and then to 1959 the University of Rhode Iceland. Then he studied until 1961 at the Boston University law. He was also a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve. Between 1963 and 1969 he was in the city of Lincoln Town Clerk ( Town Administrator). From 1969 to 1978 and again from 1981 to 1993, he served as a federal prosecutor. In 1968 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in Congress. Equally unsuccessful was his candidacy for the governorship in 1978, when he was defeated by Democrat John Garrahy. Almond was also president of the Blackstone Valley Development Foundation, a non- profit -oriented society on the development of land.

Governor of Rhode Iceland

In 1994, Lincoln Almond was elected governor of his state. He took office on January 3, 1995 and was there until 7 January 2003 exercise. During this period a reform of the constitution came into force, after the terms of office of the governor were extended from two to four years. Almond could benefit from it as the first governor. One of his first acts was the privatization of the Ministry of Economic Development to the Economic Development Corporation. The governor campaigned for the preservation of open land and water protection. Also, the road network was expanded and invested more money into education. Despite its eco-friendly views, he refused in 2001 to declare a state of emergency, as drinking water for the village of Pascoag was contaminated. Lincoln Almond is married to Marilyn A. Johnson. He has two children.
