History

The Lincoln County was formed in 1818 from parts of the former St. Charles County. The County was named after Benjamin Lincoln (1733-1810), who fought as a general in the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War and was from 1788 to 1789 Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts.
