Lincoln County (North Carolina)

Lincoln County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Lincolnton.

Geography

The County is located in west-central North Carolina, is located in the south about 30 miles from South Carolina and has an area of 795 square kilometers, of which 21 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Catawba County, Iredell County, Mecklenburg County, Gaston County, Cleveland County, and Burke County.

Lincoln County is divided into townships: Catawba Springs, Howards Creek, Ironton, Lincolnton and Northbrook.

History

Lincoln County was formed in 1778 from the defunct Tryon County. It was named, as is the district capital of Lincolnton, according to Benjamin Lincoln, a general in the American Revolutionary War.
