Lincoln County (South Dakota)

Lincoln County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. In 2010, the County had 44 828 inhabitants and a population density of 29.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The the county seat ( county seat ) is in Canton.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern South Dakota on the Big Sioux River, which forms the border with Iowa. It has an area of 1499 km ², of which (0.09 percent) spread over 1497 km ² of land and 2 km ² water surface. At the Lincoln County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The county was founded in 1862; 1867, the administration was organized. It was named after Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), 16th President of the United States.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in Lincoln County 44 828 people in 16,466 households. The population density was 29.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. In the 16,466 households lived statistically 2.61 per person.
