Lincoln MKZ

Lincoln Zephyr / MKZ (2005-2009)

The Lincoln MKZ is a limousine belonging to the Ford luxury brand Lincoln. The MKZ was first introduced for the 2006 model year as the Lincoln Zephyr. The name Zephyr goes back to an earlier, very successful model from the 1930 Lincoln. Only a few months after the start of production at Lincoln decided to to change the name to MKZ, so that this model leads to compliance with newly introduced control names with three letters is given. The MKZ is positioned on the American market in the same market segment as the BMW 3 Series, the Mercedes -Benz C-Class and the Lexus ES.

The MKZ is the successor to the Lincoln LS as Lincoln's smallest sedan and, like his predecessor received good reviews from some of America's leading automotive magazines. The Car and Driver magazine criticized, however, in the edition dated April 2006, both the styling as well as the faceless for a Lincoln disappointing engine and the resulting weak acceleration. The quality of workmanship and the materials used in the interior did not meet the expectations for a car of this class. As a treat for hi- fi fans, a new 600 -watt Lincoln THX audio system with 14 speakers will be used.

With the introduction in model year 2006 was only one engine version, a 3-liter V6 engine with 165 kW available. From the 2007 model year in addition a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 186 kW available for selection. Both engines are also in the Mercury Milan and Ford Fusion used, as these vehicles are lighter than the MKZ are they throttled there on a slightly lower performance.

In combination with the more powerful V6 engine and a four-wheel drive is offered, but not be achieved by the improved performance, which is attributed to the high vehicle weight and was criticized accordingly by the American press. The model lies in its performance almost on par with the Ford Edge.
