The Lincoln University (LU ) is a university originally founded for African- Americans in Jefferson City, Missouri.
History
Founded as the University in 1866, shortly after the end of the civil war, under the name Lincoln Institute of members of purely African-American 62nd and 65th Infantry Regiments. The goal was to allow blacks in the southern states of an academic as well as practical training. The Institute was represented at early principles which form a tradition from the Tuskegee Institute should be disseminated under Booker T. Washington later.
In 1921, the school from the state of Missouri was officially recognized as a university and received its current name. Since 1954, the university students of all ethnic groups is open.
