Lindale is a city in Smith County, Texas, United States.

Geography

The city is located on U.S. Highway 69 in northeast Texas, is in the north about 150 miles from Oklahoma to the East and around 125 km from Louisiana and has a total area of 10.4 square kilometers, of which 0.1 square miles is water.

History

The area has been inhabited since before 1873, before the Lyndale post office was opened. The following year the name was changed in Lindale and in 1875 got the settlement after the International - Great Northern Railroad. Five years later, lived here 300 inhabitants and 1902 the village with 1200 inhabitants was the largest city in the county.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 2,954 people in Lindale. Of these, 135 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 1,102 households, and 794 families. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size amounted to 3.06.

26.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.8 percent from 18 to 24, 27.1% 25-44, 20.8 percent from 45 to 64, and 17.3 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 84.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 80.5 males.

The median income for a household was $ 33,733, and the median income for a family $ 38,787. Males have a median income of $ 31,538 versus $ 21,250 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,825. 11.9 percent of the population and 9.6 percent of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 16.1 percent were children and adolescents under 18 years and 10.9 percent were 65 or older.
