Linden (Guyana)

Region

Linden is the second largest town in Guyana. It consists of the districts of Mackenzie, Wismar and Christiansburg, located in the Demerara- Berbice Upper District. The city has 29 298 inhabitants ( Census 2002) and is connected by a toll highway and through the continuous navigable Demerara River with the capital George Town.

In the area around Linden there are large deposits of bauxite, mined the large area in the open pit (60 to 90 m depth) and are processed in the nearby industrial complex. In this case, a large part of the bauxite is ground and processed in large kilns to calcined bauxite, which is exported worldwide for the construction of fire-resistant plants.
