Torenia glabra

Linderniaceae is a plant family in the order of Lippenblütlerartigen ( Lamiales ). The 13 genera with about 195 species are distributed almost worldwide from the tropics to temperate regions hot.

Description

It is annual to perennial herbaceous plants. Most species are small. The stems are square. The opposite leaves are entire or permanent cut.

The flowers appear singly or in racemose inflorescences at the growing ends, individually or in the leaf axils. The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic and most usually fünfzählig double perianth. The calyx tube is green. The petals are fused into a corolla tube. Stamens are usually four or only two available, wherein when four are present, the two upper are very different to the bottom.

Are formed capsule fruits.

Systematics and distribution

The genera that are now classified in the family Linderniaceae, previously to the families of the figwort family ( Scrophulariaceae ), calculated plantain family ( Plantaginaceae ) or Veronicaceae.

The Linderniaceae family is more or less represent the world from the tropics to the temperate warm climates. The center of diversity of the family lies in the Neotropics.

In the family Linderniaceae there are 13 genera with about 195 species:

  • Amphiolanthus Griseb. The only three species occur only in Cuba.
  • Artanema D.Don: spread with about five species in tropical Africa and Asia.
  • Bampsia Lisowski & Mielcarek: With only two species occur only in Zaire.
  • Chamaegigas Dinter ex salvation: it contains only one type: Chamaegigas Intrepidus Dinter ex salvation ( Ex.: Lindernia intrepida ( Dinter ex salvation ) Oberm. ): It occurs in south-western Africa.
  • Hemiarrhena plantaginea ( F.Muell. ) Benth. It is distributed in Australia.
  • Legazpia polygonoides ( Benth. ) T.Yamaz. It is common in Asia.
  • Picria felterrae Lour. It is common in Asia.
  • Pierranthus capitatus ( Bonati ) Bonati: It is common in Southeast Asia.

The Linderniaceae family includes a desiccation -tolerant ( poikilohydre ) species of the genus Craterostigma.
