Line 6 (Madrid Metro)

The line 6 (Spanish Línea 6 or Circular, short L-6 ) is a subway line of the Madrid Metro. It is a ring line that runs around the city center and provides connections to all other lines except the L -12. The route runs from Cuatro Caminos on Avenida de América, Pacífico and Príncipe Pío back to Cuatro Caminos.

The L-6 is 23.5 km long and has 28 stations. The fully underground line running belongs to a large network profile, the length of the stations is 115 meters. Cuatro Caminos is the lowest positioned below the surface of the entire Madrid Metro with a depth of 49 meters. At 14 points can be switched to other metro lines, at four stations for electric train Cercanías.

History

The route of the future circle line had been fixed with the revised development plan of 1974. The route Cuatro Caminos - Pacífico, the first section (7.2 km long), the L-6, was opened on 11 October 1979. A little more than half a year later, on May 7, 1980, the section between Pacífico and Oporto, so the line was completed to a little more than half.

In 1982 there was a review of the development plan. As a result of this review process, the construction work on the section were Laguna - Puerta del Ángel temporarily halted, the existing funds should flow first, especially in the improvement of the station infrastructure. The section between Oporto and Laguna could be as planned yet completed and was opened on 1 June 1983.

On January 13, 1987 L-6 reached by Cuatro Caminos from the station Ciudad Universitaria. The Complutense University of Madrid had demanded to metro network since the 1940s repeatedly failed a connection of the sprawling campus. In 1963, the L-3 was at least been extended in accordance Moncloa, but this station was on the southern edge of the site and opened this just insufficient. On 10 May 1995, with the section Laguna - Ciudad Universitaria closed the last gap of the L-6.
