The Congo forest mouse or Insectivorous wood mouse ( Deomys ferrugineus ) is a species of tree mice, which is native to the rainforests of Central Africa. With the European wood mouse, it has nothing to do despite the name; because of their different characteristics it is put together with some other African mice in a separate subfamily Deomyinae, but sometimes also associated with the tree mice.

The body length of the Congo forest mouse is 12 to 14 cm, added 15 to 21 cm tail. The coat is reddish brown on the upper side and black in the middle of the back; the underside is white. Striking are the very long, thin tail, and large, round ears.

The Congo forest mouse has a purely ground-dwelling lifestyle. Among the tree roots she builds a nest of leaves and other plant parts. At dusk, she goes on the forest floor in search of food. At 90 %, there is food from insects, plant food is taken only as a supplementary food. Also unusual is the small number of young in a litter; it is one to three.
