Linkbelt Oval

The Linkbelt Oval is currently the only sports stadium of the island nation of Nauru. It is located in Aiwo and was built by the Nauru Phosphate Company. It is also called Aida Oval, because Aida here, one of track and field clubs in Nauru, its competitions and trainings keeps.

Because of its aging and rough playing surface, it is sufficient generally did not meet international standards. The Linkbelt Oval is currently mainly used for Australian football games. At the stadium, the seat of Nauru Australian Football Association is ( NAFA ), which organizes the matches of the national championship and the national team. The attendance record of the stadium is 3,000 spectators, which was set up at the Cup final in 1999.

It consists of a playing field and small temporary grandstands during important games. The square is named after a company that was previously involved in the phosphate mining. In addition, the team of the electric power plant, the Menaida Tigers, was originally known as the " Linkbelt ".

In the square there was no grass; the playing surface consists entirely of phosphate dust and dirt, so it is difficult to deny Football matches on such a surface. The motto of the NAFA is therefore "the hard men of football " ( The hard men of football ). The Nauruan football players maintain their wounds after the game with sea water. Foreign visiting teams usually play with elbow and knee pads.

Despite the moon-like appearance of the playing field, there are gates in original size and a decent scoreboard. The match marks on the very bright surface are marked with oil. The Linkbelt Oval is home of all the teams in the Nauruan league. The Denig stage, another field in Denigomodu is not suitable for football and the Menen Stadium is still under construction.
