Linton Garner

Linton Garner ( born March 25, 1915 in Greensboro, North Carolina; † 6 March 2003 in Vancouver ) was a jazz pianist and arranger of swing and bebop genres.

Linton Garner is the older brother of Erroll Garner. He played trumpet since 1924 and was active in local orchestras, where he played with Art Blakey and Billy Eckstine. However, he moved in 1935 to the piano, which he learned to play early. As a pianist and arranger, he was 1946/47, worked for Billy Eckstine and accompanied the singer Timmie Rogers 1947 until 1955. Afterwards he had engagements as a solo pianist. He also worked as an arranger for Dizzy Gillespie ( Minor Walk in 1947 and Duff Capers 1948). As a pianist, he was also a session in October 1946 with the singer Earl Coleman, in which the young Miles Davis was involved, which was released on his album " Boppin 'the Blues ". Garner has also worked with Babs Gonzales, Fats Navarro and Allen Eager.

In 1974 he moved to Vancouver, where sang in a restaurant in the Kitsilano neighborhood and played the piano.
