Linus Omark

Linus Karl Heimer Omark ( born February 5, 1987 in Övertorneå ) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player who is since February 2014 again at Luleå HF in the Svenska Hockey ligands under contract.

Career

Omark, who was born in northern Sweden Övertorneå and grew up, moved as a teenager to the top club Luleå HF that is not home to one of the few clubs in the south of the country. There Omark played between 2003 and 2006 in both the Under-18 Junior in the second-rate Allsvenskan as well as the U-20 juniors in the class Elitserien. After he was accrued in the season 2003/ 04 mainly in the U18 team, he came from 2004 - at the age of 17 years - already regularly in the U20 team to use. During the 2005/06 season the winger finally made his debut in the senior team in the Elitserien.

The striker came in the season 2005 /06 in 19 games the main draws and three playoff games available for use, in which he had a Torvorbereitung. This yield, he was able to increase significantly in the game in 2006/ 07 when he scored 17 points scorer in 50 encounters. His positive development meant that chose him, the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL Entry Draft in 2007 in the fourth round at 97th overall. However, the Swede remained in his homeland and increased in the following two seasons, his offensive efficiency. After Omark had achieved in 2007/ 08 32 points in the season and nearly doubled its previous year's production, he rose again in the 2008 /09 season, when he succeeded in 55 points in only 53 games. In addition, he was able to make five more assists in five playoff games. With his 55 points in the main round, he was behind Norwegian Per- Åge Skrøder and his compatriot Fredrik Bremberg third best scorer in the league. Since his contract had expired at Luleå at the end of the season, the Edmonton Oilers tried intensively to an obligation of their draft choice from the year 2007. Omark but opted for a doped with 2.6 million U.S. dollars two-year contract with the Russian giants HK Dynamo Moscow. There, signed on the same day, his teammate Johan Harju. However, the contract had an exit clause, which allowed Omark to change an offer from the Oilers of the National Hockey League after the first year there, which also happened in the summer of 2010. He played his first game for the Oilers on 10 December 2010 against Tampa Bay and scored the decisive shootout the acclaimed winner. Over the entire season, he finally prevailed in the NHL and scored five goals and 22 assists in 51 games for Edmonton.

After Omark had been deported to the Oklahoma City Barons during the 2011/12 season in the American Hockey League, he signed in August 2012 a one-year contract with EV train from the Swiss National League A. He quickly became a star in the league and finished the 2012/13 season as top scorer with 69 points. In particular, in conjunction with NHL star Damien Brunner Omark was effective. For the 2013/14 season he returned to the Edmonton Oilers, but only played an NHL game before he was summoned again to the Oklahoma City Barons. There he was with 29 points after 28 games leading scorer of the team.

On December 19, 2013 Omark is for a sixth- round vote in the NHL Entry Draft in 2014 to the Buffalo Sabres. But even with the Sabres, he could not prevail. When he refused in February 2014 to play for the Rochester Americans, he was released from his contract and returned to his hometown club.

Internationally

At the international level Omark represented his native Sweden for the first time at the Junior World Cup 2007 in their own country. After defeat in the semi-finals and the match for third place, he finished with the team to fourth place and thus remained without a medal. However, he was honored alongside Nicklas Bäckström Niklas Hjalmarsson and by the coaches as one of the three best Swedish player of the tournament.

In the senior winger was first called to the 2009 World Cup in Switzerland in the squad of the Montreal Canadien selection. In preparation for the tournament games Omark made in late March for worldwide attention in the hockey scene when he scored in a game against the hosts Switzerland the game-winning goal in the shootout with a lob over goalkeeper Marco Buehrer. The striker was able to distinguish with five assists in the first group match also at the World Championships. At the end, he won the bronze medal with the team and was with ten points, the second best scorer points scorer of his team.
