Liodesmus sprattiformis

Liodesmus is a genus of extinct bony fish from the order of arc -finned fishes ( Amiiformes ). They occurred in European waters in the Upper Jurassic. Fossils of the genus have been found in the Solnhofen limestone but are rare.

Features

Liodesmus was about 12 cm long and was so much smaller than other arc -finned fishes. Her body was elongated triangular dorsal fin was slightly behind the middle of the body. The pelvic fins were small and started slightly before the dorsal fin. The anal fin was small and pointed and began at the end of the dorsal fin. The pelvic fins were smaller than the anal fin. The caudal fin was indented and easy heterocercal, the upper lobe slightly enlarged and scaly. The head was short and thicker than the hull, the jaws were equipped with small, sharp teeth. The mandible bent at its tip slightly upward.
