Lionel Roux

Lionel Roux (born 12 April 1973 in Lyon ) is a former French tennis player.

Life

Roux joined in 1990 at the junior tournament of the U.S. Open, but retired in the first round against Andrea Gaudenzi from. The following year, he was French national youth champion. Throughout his career, he was twice in the finals of a tournament of the ATP World Tour. However, he was defeated in 1994 in Osaka clearly against Pete Sampras in 1997 and in Tokyo in three sets against Richard Krajicek. On the ATP Challenger Tour he celebrated two individual titles, in 1991 in Singapore and 2002 in Cherbourg. The highest quotation in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1995 with position 48 in the singles and in 1996 with position 246 in doubles.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round of the Australian Open in 1998. According victories over Tomas Nydahl Jan Apell and Karim Alami he lost in four sets to eventual finalist Marcelo Ríos. In the doubles and mixed competition he received at the French Open wildcards, but could never survive the first round.

Roux played in 1997 a single match for the French Davis Cup team. In the decisive final game in the qualifying round of the World Group in Belgium, he lost his game against Christophe van Garsse in four sets. Previously, Fabrice Santoro and Cedric Pioline each had lost their individual and have been excluded from team boss Yannick Noah for the item. Guillaume Raoux had brought France by his victories in a double with Santoro and the individual against Filip Dewulf back into the game.
