Liophryne

Liophryne is an amphibian genus of the family -mouthed.

Description

The pupils are horizontal. The tongue is large, oblong, cut back and freely lifted to a high degree. Behind the line connecting the posterior nares are two converging towards the rear rows of the palate teeth. Before the throat entrance there are two transverse folds of skin, of which at least the rear is strongly denticulate. The tympanic membrane can be clearly seen. The fingers and toes are free and distended slightly at the tips. The Praecoracoide are available and very slim. The Omosternum missing. The sternum is small and cartilaginous. The transverse processes of the Sacralwirbels are excessively broadened.

Occurrence

The genus is found only in New Guinea.

The genus was first described in 1897 by Liophryne George Albert Boulenger. It includes seven types:
