Lipa, Batangas

Lipa (Filipino: Lungsod ng Lipa ) is a city in the Philippine province of Batangas 78 km south of Manila.

Lipa is bordered on the northeast by Santo Tomas, in San Pablo City in the province of Laguna and San Antonio in Quezon province in the east, the municipalities of Padre Garcia and Rosario in the southeast, to San Jose and Ibaan in the southwest, to the municipalities of Cuenca and Mataas na Kahoy, and the Taalsee the west and the municipalities of Balete and Malvar in the northwest.

Lipa is located in a valley between the mountains and Mount Mount Malarayat Makulot. This location Lipa is relatively protected from typhoons. The Mount Makulot in the western part of the city of Lipa shields from before eruptions of Taal Volcano.

Lipa is an important center for trade, industry, education and recreation in the center of the province of Batangas.

Nestlé Philippines is established with a production plant in the city.

Several educational institutions have their headquarters in Lipa, including the private university De La Salle Lipa with more than 9000 students, and 14 high schools.

The city is home to the Air Force Base Basilio Fernando Air Base, the former headquarters of the Philippine Air Force 's 100th Training Wing and Air Education and Training Command ( AETC ) of the Philippine Air Force.

Policy

The former mayor of the city Vilma Recto (1998-2007) won the 2007 elections to the governor of the province of Batangas. The former congressman Oscar Gozo won the mayoral election in 2007, against the other candidates Eric Mar Panganiban and Africa. Vice Mayor is Lydio Lopez Jr., who won the election for his second term in 2007.
