Lipki, Kireyevsky District, Tula Oblast

Lipki (Russian Липки ) is a Russian city in the Tula Oblast Raion Kirejewsk with 8719 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ). Located 23 km south-east of the railway station of the city Shchekino and just 40 km south of Tula.

History

The village Lipki was founded in the 17th century. From the year 1940 began coal production in the neighboring villages. In 1949, the workers village Lipki to Lipkowski ( Липковский ). As it gained city status in 1955, the old name was restored Lipki. Today, no more coal is extracted, however, there is a brick factory and a (large) bakery.
