The Lippe Library / Theological Library and media center in Detmold is a scientific universal and regional library for OWL. The support of this public institution is the National Association lip.

Housed in the library is a neoclassical palace, which was built as a private house and residence of the Detmold wholesale merchant and building contractor William Ebert 1842-1843. Since 1886, after the acquisition by the Prince Woldemar, the library is located there.

Geared is the library on the support of regional universities and research institutions in teaching and learning with approximately 550,000 volumes and 1,200 periodicals literature from all subjects. Important for the Lippe area are the " Lippe Regional Documentation ", the " Lippe Literature Archive " and the music collection with a large lending library of sheet music and music literature.

History

The history of Lippe library goes up to the book collection of versatile educated and cultured Lippe Lord Count Simon VI. (1554-1613) back. 1614 donated Count Simon VII these basic collection of literature of the Latin School, today's high school Leopoldinum as " Counts Public Library " to Detmold. This collection was also known under the names library on the schoolyard or school library.

The actual founder of the Lippe library was shaped by the educational ideals of the Enlightenment regent Princess Pauline, she led the count's library with other books in the Principality of Lippe created collections for " Princely Public Library " together. Received its present name the library in 1919, when the former sovereign ownership was transferred to the Free State of Lippe after the First World War. After the Second World War and the subsequent unification of the Free State of North Rhine -Westphalia, the ownership was transferred to the newly founded state of Lippe.
