Lippisch Delta IV

The DFS 39 Delta IVc was a tailless experimental aircraft of the German Research Institute for Gliding (DFS ).

Developed the aircraft in 1935 as an experimental aircraft in the Delta series based on the Fieseler F 3 This was by Prof. Lippisch designed test series was the objective of tailless aircraft, that aircraft without tailplane to investigate on their flight stability. The Delta IVc was as a result of previous patterns, as well as created at the suggestion of Prof. Lippisch. It should be demonstrated that the stability about the vertical axis through downwardly angled wing tips is to get together with keeled surface appendages. With the Delta IVc this theory could be proved to be correct.

The aircraft was designed as a tailless cantilever low- wing monoplane of wooden construction. The fuselage was formed into a backward vertical edge. Also held in a fixed standard suspension, as well as an air-cooled Pobjoy radial engine with 85 hp use. The two-man crew sat behind each other in separate seats.
