Lippmann plate

The method of Lippmann (named after Gabriel Lippmann ) is a manufacturing process for color images in the photograph. An extremely fine grain black and white film ( Lippmann emulsion ) is placed with the coated side on mercury and exposed. They form interference between the incident and reflected light, cause the appropriate redactions in the volume of the photosensitive layer. After normal development of the image can be placed on mercury and there appear interference colors, similar to bubble again.

The Lippmann process is closely related to the white-light holography, which is also based on photographic detention of interference.
