The village name comes from German and is derived from Liebtal or Liebental. Owners of Liptál at that time were the Kravař on Vsetín, which was followed by the Lords of Cimburg. Since 1506 Liptál belonged to the noble family of Kunštát and 1614 it went as part of the rule Vsetín into the possession of Albrecht von Wallenstein's over. 1666 was the establishment of the feudal domain Liptál.

In the 19th century belonged to the castle, the park, the widow seat, a grist mill, a sawmill, brewery, distillery, inn and tavern. With the replacement of patrimonial regimes in 1848 Liptál became an independent municipality.

The castle was owned by the family since 1930 Brandenstein- Zeppelin, which was expropriated in 1945. Since then, the castle is owned by the municipality.
