Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault

The Liquiñe - Ofqui Fault Zone is a major geological fault in the Chilean Andes. It extends over 1000 km in a north-south direction. Your northern foothills mark the thermal springs in the valley of Liquiñe, its southernmost of the Isthmus of Ofqui.

Movements in the fault zone were closed down after the earthquake of Valdivia in 1960 from an outbreak of the volcanic complex Puyehue - Cordon Caulle. Even with other volcanic eruptions in this area could have been the cause movements in the fault zone.
