Lisbon District

The District of Lisbon ( Distrito de Lisboa ) is a district in Portugal, consisting of the traditional province of Estremadura. The neighboring districts are called Leiria in the north, in the east of Santarém and Setúbal in the south. To the west of the district borders the Atlantic Ocean.

The area is 2761 km ², the district has a population of 2.1 million (as of 2001). Capital of the district is Lisbon. License plate for trailers: L.

The District of Lisbon is divided into 16 counties ( municipios ):

Until the restructuring in 2002, the district was completely in the region Lisboa e Vale do Tejo and integrated into the two sub-regions of Grande Lisboa and West ( Portugal), extended by Lezíria do Tejo, divided.

Thereafter, Lisboa e Vale do Tejo has been significantly reduced, renamed Região de Lisboa. While the Grande Lisboa subregion remained in the Lisbon region, the sub-region West ( Portugal) ( Oeste) was assigned to the Centro Region and Lezíria do Tejo the Região do Alentejo.
