Lisebergbanan

Lisebergbanan in Gothenburg Liseberg in Sweden is a steel roller coaster in the manufacturer Decorators and BHS, which was opened on 18 April 1987.

When the Schwarzkopf GmbH went bankrupt, Mr. Anton Schwarzkopf worked as a freelancer with the company Decorators, to build some roller coasters. The Lisebergbanan was the first of these roller coasters.

Lisebergbanan has five trains, each with eleven cars. In each car, two people can (a series à two people) take place.

The construction of the web

The construction of the railway is a so-called Custom design, which means that it is not mass-produced roller coaster in this roller coaster as it is mainly the manufacturers of roller coasters in the case, but a special design. The route of the track was designed specifically for the terrain for the amusement park Liseberg and thus exists only once.

The planning of the route

The difficulty for the planning of the route was that the railway should be built on an approximately 36 meter high natural mountain with rocks, which is also well wooded. In addition, there were on the mountain quite a few rides and walkways, which could not be affected by the route of the roller coaster. The fact that the Lisebergbanan goes through a natural mountain and no 45 -meter high steel construction, this roller coaster look different fundamentally from most other roller coasters.

The construction of the five traits had an influence on the route, as could be used for the track a few rapid turns and quick changes in direction by the eleven short compartments of the trains that would not have been with longer compartments technically possible, because these are not for such small curve radii are suitable.

High ridership

Another difficulty was the high numbers of visitors of the theme park and the coaster should therefore so many passengers in as possible so as to avoid long waiting times. For this reason it was decided that five -car trains should be on the road at the same time on the track, which usually run every 45 seconds, which can be 1,760 people take the Lisebergbanan per hour. But there are also shorter distances possible.

In summer, the amusement park Liseberg is open an average of 12 hours a day. On these days, Lisebergbanan can (theoretically) carry up to 21,120 passengers and each of the five trains sets it back 257 kilometers driven per day. Overall, these are 1285 kilometers.

Positions of the carriage trains while driving

The positions of the carriage trains during driving are divided as follows: A train is always located in the entrance area, one is always pulled up the lift, two trains on the actual route and the fifth train approaches after the final braking back to the station.

The station of the roller coaster

Particularly complex, the station of the roller coaster was designed, which is located in front of the mountain in the main part of the amusement park on the ground level and was designed in the style of a train station at the end of the 19th century. The boarding area was sumptuously decorated with paintings and illuminated with large chandeliers.

Track

From the day it opened on April 18, 1987 to July 17, 1991, the Lisebergbanan was the roller coaster with the longest travel in Europe. Currently in Europe there are only four roller coasters that have an even longer track.

Security

In order to avoid rear-end collisions, are located in the actual route on the mountain two block brakes that prevent two -car trains can be in the same stretch of track at the same time.

At the end of the actual route is a 540 ° helix (roundabout), behind which is a further block brake is. Here the trains be brought to a standstill. Then the trains roll to the last block brake before the station where the trains are stopped again.

Then follow the four block sections of the station where the trains are pulled by traction wheels. 1 The waiting position before the traverser / 2 The sliding stage with the five trains can be moved laterally on their sidings / 3 in which passengers can enter and exit the standby position before boarding area / 4 The entry area in the trains.

The lift carries in addition to the raising of the trains on the highest point of the coaster also for safety: If the preceding vehicle train has not yet left the first block brake, then the lift is switched off before the drawn train has reached the end of the lift. This is also with any other roller coasters in the case where there are a plurality of trains.

Lighting

Since the amusement park Liseberg is open on some days up to 23:00 clock and the Lisebergbanan thus driving in the dark, the trains optical reasons were constructed so that they can be lit all around.

The lift was fitted in several rows with thousands of light bulbs that make a great running light in the dark and the station of the roller coaster, has been painstakingly illuminated from the outside.

Accident

2006 were injured as two trains collided train 21 people. The accident happened as the chain that the lift hill up not transported properly worked the train and the fully loaded train rolled back to the boarding platform. Here, the train hit another train in the station, in the just disembarked passengers. There was only one part of the train on the lift hill, the Rückrollsicherrung could not hold the entire train and broke off. After the accident, the train was re-opened after a technical correction.
