Lismore (New South Wales)

Lismore is a town in the far north-east of the Australian state of New South Wales, about 45 km from the easternmost point of the Australian continent away in Byron Bay. It is the largest city in sub-tropical Northern Rivers area.

Lismore was founded in 1856 and has about 27 000 inhabitants. The city is the main location of the Southern Cross University. In addition, it is a center for all artists and has numerous galleries, studios and theaters.

End of the 70s there were headlines about an alleged grave glowing cross on the northern cemetery of the city, which drew crowds of curious onlookers and ghost believers in the city. The backgrounds could never be clarified and in 1986 the stone cross disappeared without a trace.

Lismore is the center of the local administrative area Lismore City. The administrative headquarters is located in Goonellabah district.

Lismore is on a main main road to the Gold Coast and has a small airport. In addition, the city can be reached by rail; it lies on the line casino Coolangatta (Gold Coast). In Casino Connection are available at the main route Brisbane - Sydney.
