List of directors of the British Museum
The director of the British Museum (Director of the British Museum) is the director of the British Museum in London.
The current director is of Scottish art historian Neil MacGregor (as of 2013). He is responsible for the general administration and financial management, for which he is accountable to the Government of the United Kingdom. The British Museum has over 1,000 employees (as of 2011).
The actual steering of the British Museum, however, is its Board of Trustees transferred, whose chairman Niall FitzGerald is as of March 23, 2010.
At the creation of the museum the highest office with " Principal Librarian " ( Chief Librarian or Senior Librarian ) was designated, in 1898 it was changed to " Director and Principal Librarian ' (Director and Chief Librarian ) and 1973 on the occasion of the separation of the British Museum and the newly established National Library, the British Library, in "Director " renamed.
