List of divided islands
The majority of all the islands is now one each for the territory of a single state or in each case a State. Islands which extend international borders, are a rare exception.
Internationally recognized borders

1 1950 regulation because of waterworks for Swinoujscie am Wolgastsee, 1989 defining the maritime boundary before Swinemünder roadstead. 2 Kataja is not divided since 1809. Originally, the border in the sea between Kataja and the smaller Russian island Inakari, but this grew over time by the land uplift together. 3 The unnamed island was filled up artificially for completion of border formalities. 4 An unnamed island is mostly in France. The rest is shared German -Luxembourgian territory.

5 The Rebirth Island is due to the silting up of the Aral Sea and the resulting compound with the mainland since 2002 no longer an island.
Disputed borders
6 The international legal status of the military base is controversial. The United States rely on an open-ended lease with Cuba. Cuba recognizes the lease since at least 1960 and no longer looking at the military base as illegal. The boundary of the military base thus has a different character than a U.S. military base, for example in Germany. 7 Akrotiri and Dekalia even after the independence of Cyprus British territory ( Sovereign Base Areas) and are counted from the UK to the British overseas territories. The 1983 proclaimed Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is not recognized by the international community.
