The chalice (from Latin calix ) is a lid and handle -less vessel consisting of Cuppa ( cup), Nodus ( knob or handle ), Stilus (shaft) and pes ( foot).

The term is mainly applied to the Eucharistic chalice, which plays an important role in the liturgy of the Christian churches.

For other meanings of the word, when it is not used poetically (also figuratively for fate, divine test), better used in compositions ( goblet, chalice shape, calyx ). From the Cup, the cup is distinguished by its ceremonial function, the mug by the high foot and the ciborium ( dish cup ) through the cover and his other liturgical provision. Historically cup and cup with drinking cup ( kylix ) are related to the ancient Greeks.
