List of governors of Portuguese India

This list shows the names of the governors of Portuguese India. The Manager, on behalf of the Portuguese crown had different titles. People who have great merit the title of Viceroy was given. He was there first awarded by King Manuel I of Tristão Cunha, but due to a temporary blindness, the Office could not compete. Instead, it was Francisco de Almeida, the first Viceroy of Portuguese India ( Estado da India ). His successor, Afonso de Albuquerque in turn received only the title of the governor. In 1774 the title of Viceroy was officially abolished, but then subcontracted sporadically until it was finally abolished in 1835.

The Governors / Viceroys managed over 200 years of Goa (from 1510 capital ) of not only the Portuguese possessions in India, but also the other colonies on the Indian Ocean and Asia: East Africa ( until 1752), Macao, Portuguese Timor and the other East Asian colonies ( until 1951, with an interruption between 1844-1883 ).

The last Portuguese manager was deposed in 1961, when India occupied the last Portuguese enclaves. After the Carnation Revolution in 1975, the annexation was recognized by Portugal.
