List of Icelandic artists

Visual artists there were in Iceland for a long time, but only at the beginning of the 20th century Icelandic artist gained truly international recognition. At first they had mostly studied abroad, such as in Copenhagen and this study funded by an additional job, for example, as sailors.

Painting

The main motives of the painter were the nature of their homeland and their people. However, the supernatural powers that have always played a role in Iceland were a recurrent theme.

Sculpture

Only in the 19th century Icelandic artists began to deal with the sculpture. It had been simply lacked the useful material because the to-find stones in Iceland are usually quite brittle.
