List of Irish Republican Army chiefs of staff

The organizations that have been designated as Irish Republican Army and name were, or are organized hierarchically. At the top of the organization is the seven-man IRA Army Council - ( Army Council ), chaired by the IRA Chief of Staff (Chief of Staff ) is. The Chief of Staff determines a representative, the IRA Adjutant General, and forms a headquarters (IRA General Headquarters, also GHQ), which consists of a number of individual departments.

The following list includes persons of whom it is believed that they held office as chief of staff in the different organizations, the Irish Republican Army are called and called. Because of the clandestine nature of these organizations, this list is not final.

On an IRA Special Army Convention (SAC ), which was held in Dublin on 28 December 1969, the IRA split into two factions. The majority of the delegates founded the Official IRA and the Provisional IRA a minority.
